The Veterinarian, Loss Prevention & Safety role has three critical functions with the PetSmart organization:
Enables execution of our pet safety strategy, proactively developing and implementing initiatives that prevent injuries and deliver a safe experience for pets within our care.
Supports LP/Safety, Services, Store Operations, and the Learning teams on associate education initiatives
Evaluates new services, trainings, products, techniques, etc. as they relate to safety
Perform store visits when necessary
Subject matter expert regarding medical review and pet safety guidance relating to products and areas within our stores including, but not limited to Salon, PetsHotel, Doggie Day Camp, Pet Training, and Core.
Completes medical case reviews
Reviews safety data sheets and testing trials for new Services products
Internal Dog and Cat expert and advisor for Marketing and Corporate Communications
Review of marketing content for accuracy
Support corporate communication team with content and data
Medical Subject Matter expert on external marketing and business communications
Member of PetSmart’s Healthy Pet Advisory Council (HPAC), supporting Proprietary Brands
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
Advises on safety awareness program content, including annual pet safety certification, to aid in injury prevention
Proactive identification of trends and cross-functional partnership on solutions to aid in injury prevention
Medical review of incidents to determine cause of illness or injury and relation to PetSmart Services
Key partner on root cause of incidents, significant incidents, and mitigation of brand risk
Pet Safety Policy and Procedure subject matter expert
Supports Field and Home Office partners with questions pertaining to veterinary matters
Key liaison to Banfield for day-to-day operations
Subject matter expert for care of pets in services during store emergency situations
Accountable for the review, updating, and development of emergency processes i.e. evacuation, power failure etc. related to the safety of pets in our care

TRAVEL The role will include 10% travel.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris (VMD), or equivalent
An Arizona State Veterinary Medical License (if not already licensed) must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
A minimum of 5 years of veterinary experience with dogs and cats, internship trained preferred
Ability to strategically evaluate processes and define operating plans for execution
Experience with boarding facilities or shelter management
Significant knowledge around dog behavior and training
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work effectively with team members
