SoBran, Inc. is seeking an Animal Facility Specialist II (Technical Supervisor) to serve the Laboratory Animal Research Contract (LARC) in Bethesda, MD.
OVERVIEW: The function of the Technical Supervisor is to manage and lead the people assigned to the task in such a way that the work is accomplished in accordance with SOPs, policies and guidelines associated with the expectations of their facilities. They are to serve as the subject matter expert in all areas of the facility. This person is expected to be familiar with the day-to-day activities, personnel and issues within the facilities they manage. We expect the Technical Supervisors to be forward thinking and create plans to mitigate potential risks within their tasks. The Technical Supervisor must have strong supervisory skills and be capable of exercising and maintaining complete control of the employees and work performed on the task. The Technical Supervisor will assist program management in the efficient allocation of the budget, write and maintain reports and develop and maintain an effective relationship with the Government staff. This person will act as a liaison between contract and Government personnel, work with the human resources department in the hiring, disciplining, promoting and termination of personnel.
Understands and follows all SOP’s and Quality Assurance Standards
Performs medical, procedural and other veterinary care activities as directed by ASP or DVM directives
Generates and maintains databases for inventory, medical treatments, billing, etc.
Staff training and skill evaluation
Communication with various parties and customers
Procedure schedule and tracking
Management of colony health activities
Staff scheduling and support tracking
Support new staff and investigator orientation
Generation and maintenance of various reports and databases
Creation and maintenance of animal health records and medical files
Generation and maintenance of technical billing data
Inventory and supply ordering of medications and medical supplies
Bi-monthly Q/A and Q/C of the procedure rooms
Daily sign off on all procedure rooms
Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned
Schedule: All employees are expected to perform their duties as assigned, arrive to work at 7:00 am and depart at 3:30 pm M-F. Weekend work is required as scheduled. The weekend hours are from 8 am to 12 pm. In addition, you will be expected to work extra hours during an emergency situation or if any unexpected situations arise until work is completed.
Education: Employees’ appointed to the position of Technical Supervisor – LVT must meet one of the following standards prior to appointment:
A Master’s Degree in Animal Science or related discipline
An Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology
A Bachelor’s degree in one of the Physical Sciences, Animal Sciences, or related discipline
Employees must hold an AALAS certification at the LATg level; or they must be eligible for and successfully complete the LATg exam within one calendar year of appointment to this position.

Experience required: 7 years of experience as a veterinary technologist in the Laboratory Animal field working with multiple species. Additionally, 3 years of management experience in the Laboratory Animal field with increasing levels of responsibility preferred.
