The College of Veterinary Medicine at Long Island University (Post Campus) invites applications for the position of Professor and Department Head of Biomedical Veterinary Sciences.
As a senior member of the college administrative team, the Department Head will be expected to provide visionary leadership for development of an accredited veterinary program. The successful candidate must be able to promote LIU-CVM’s mission of enhancing veterinary medical education through excellence in teaching, research and service to a variety of stakeholders.
The Department Head will design and implement strategies to recruit and retain multidisciplinary faculty and staff and will be a strong advocate for all matters pertinent to the Department. He/she will supervise and mentor faculty who provide DVM training, postgraduate education (MS and PhD) in clinical pathology, epidemiology, immunology, infectious diseases, morphologic pathology, pharmacology, toxicology, and specialty/residency training in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology and toxicology.
The successful candidate should be able to motivate the departmental faculty and promote a culture of collegiality and collaboration within the workplace. The Head will be a strong team player and interested in developing collaborative research and service activities with other academic units across the LIU Campuses and extramurally. He/she will have responsibility for the fiscal oversight of the department.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a DVM, PhD or other earned doctoral degree in biomedical sciences or related field and/or specialty board certification. The candidate will have an outstanding history of scholarly achievement as independent and/or collaborative researcher. The candidate will have exceptional leadership and management abilities, a strong commitment to professional DVM and graduate student education, professional development of faculty and staff, good communication skills and to ability to promote a culture of diversity and inclusiveness.
