Education and Requirements :
Virginia License Veterinary Technician (LVT) certification required or enrolled in a Virginia LVT program or equivalent.
18 years of age, minimum.
Be someone who always seeks to learn and do better.
Is mature and able to work well with all members of the team.
Is able to directly bring concerns to the attention of the hospital management in a mature and constructive fashion.
Is able to accept direction and work cooperatively with all.
Is calm and efficient even during a medical emergency.
Must enjoy working with animals of all types, even when they are difficult or in pain.
Must be physically able to lift and carry heavy animals (with assistance), walk and stand for many hours per day and frequently work on the floor and in various bent positions.
Duties and Tasks
Able to clearly and confidently educate clients regarding their pets medical conditions and treatments needed and suggested vaccine protocols, directing questions to veterinarians as appropriate.
Be confident and professional at all times even during the most stressful events.
Stay focused in a busy environment.
Remember at all times we exist to serve the clients and their pets.
Keep accurate medical records and charges.
Be quick and accurate with computers use.
Keep all areas of the facility clean, odor free and well organized on a continual basis and does this without being told.
Able to restrain difficult animals in a calm, assured, firm and controlled manner regardless of size and weight.
Is able to given SQ, IM and IV medications, can place an IV catheter and effectively use IV pumps.
Prepare for surgery, administer and monitor anesthesia, assist in any medical, surgical or dental procedure, recover patients from anesthesia
Monitors inventory levels, prepare inventory orders, ensures all areas of the facility are prepared and stocked at all times for any eventuality.
Able to handle emergencies, control bleeding, resuscitation with oxygen, open airways and perform CPR.
Able to accurately read and relay and record laboratory results.
